Why are sports games valued so poorly?

Some observations: Atari 2600 sports games seem to hold decent value, NES sports games do alright. But somewhere in the 16 bit era they take a nosedive. Is it all about having a new version every year? There's a ton of Mega Man games and final fantasy games, but they don't depreciate for the same reasons.Don't the people who buy these sports games have positive experiences with them? Don't they hold on to them and value them? Don't they want to buy them again for the nostalgia, the same way we want to buy copies of old mega man games and final fantasy games?
