Cable to power riser from PSU.

Hi everyone,I know I should never use Sata for powering my riser from my psu. I also saw somewhere that I should not use 6 pin to 8 (6+2)? Is that right? I had the understanding that that was going to be ok. Kindly advice. Thanks!
