LPT: before an important video call (interview, Zoom date, etc), turn on your webcam and make sure that what they see will give them a good impression of you

Maybe your webcam is pointed off to the left. Maybe there's a sock on the floor, right at the edge of the webcam's field of view. Maybe your face is really dark against the brighter background. These are tiny things which may make a huge difference toward someone's impression of you.​Make whatever adjustments you need to make BEFORE the video call begins. Don't wait until the call has started to notice that you forgot to close your messy closet. First impressions matter! And even if it isn't their first impression of you, it still matters, so don't let it be their last!​Other pre-video call habits to consider: put phone on silent, close windows/doors to eliminate noises, do a mic check to ensure it's working, wear headphones instead of using speakers to eliminate feedback/echo.
