Hello. I do not speak ASL but I am curious about something that I noticed while sitting on the subway. I saw two people signing to each other across the subway car and was wondering if there is such a thing as “distance” in ASL? In normal speaking conversation between non-deaf people, it becomes harder to communicate the farther the people are from each other. For example, sitting across a subway car you may have to speak louder, sitting across a football field length, it becomes impossible to speak because the other person can not hear you. Is there a similar concept in ASL or can I have a perfect conversation with someone no matter how far apart we are from each other as long as I can see their body and face with my eyes?
