Bluetooth headset <-> headphone switching

I'm thinking about buying a bluetooth headphone / headset combo device, but my previous experiences with it's unrealiability is making me reconsider my intent. A friend of mine lent me his JBL everest 750NC headphone to try it out, and it worked great, except I couldn't use it as a headset with my laptop running win10. I tried switching the default sound device from headphone to headset, while also switching the default recording device, but mostly the only thing that happened after I switched is that neither the input, nor the output worked. Sometimes I couldn't even change back to headphone mode, I had to re-pair the device to make it work again.Does anybody know a reliable way for switching a bluetooth device from headphone mode to headset mode?I also have a Xiaomi sport BT in-ear headphone / headset combo, which, surprisingly, can handle the switching process I mentioned before. Only thing I found, is that if the headset mode is already connected to something, like discord, then the device won't be able to switch.
